Closets, bedrooms, downsizing

Decluttering

Simplify your life by removing excess items and optimizing your living space. Perfect for those looking to downsize or minimize.

Chapter 01

The spare room nobody can make a decision about

Nearly every home has one: the spare room, the closet, the corner of the garage where things wait for a verdict. Each item has a reason to stay. It might be useful someday, it was a gift, it cost real money, or it belongs to a chapter of life you aren't quite ready to close. Stack up enough reasons and the room stops working for anyone.

Sorting alone tends to stall in the same place. You pick something up, feel the pull of all those reasons, and set it back down. An hour later you've moved a pile from one side of the room to the other. A second person in the room, one who isn't attached to the stuff, is often what turns a stuck afternoon into finished decisions.

That's what decluttering with Orderly Abode is for. It's a good fit if you're downsizing, getting a house ready to sell, or simply want a lighter, more manageable home in Lake in the Hills or anywhere across McHenry, Kane and DuPage counties.

Three boxes on a bedroom floor marked keep, donate and let go

Keep, donate, or let go, one decision at a time

The work begins the way all of Stacie's work does: a walk through the space with you, and a conversation about what you want from it. A bedroom closet you want to actually use needs different decisions than a whole house you're shrinking down. The plan is collaborative and tailored to your preferences, and you always have the final say on what stays.

From there, items are sorted into three groups: keep, donate, or discard. Your organizer helps you work through what you need and don't need, offering a steady second opinion and practical guidance on maximizing the space you have, without hurrying you past the things that matter.

Once the excess is out, the items that remain get organized efficiently. They're grouped by how you use them, placed where you can reach them, and given containers and labels so the room doesn't quietly fill back up.

Chapter 03

Staying light once the boxes are gone

Decluttering only counts if it lasts. Along with the cleared space you get tips and systems for keeping it that way, such as a simple rule for what comes in, a spot where donations collect between drop-offs, and a habit of asking where a new item will live before it comes home.

You'll know a space needs another pass when surfaces start collecting things without a home, when you can't find what you know you own, or when a closet door won't close easily. Those are quiet signals, and a reset at that point is far smaller than starting from scratch.

Decluttering is also the natural first step before a move, since every item you let go is one you don't pack, move or unpack. If a room, a closet or a whole house is on your mind, the first consultation is free. Call (224) 609-7393 and we'll talk through where to begin.
